Need to show a Photoshop file to someone who does not have Photoshop, or publish a design on a website? Convert the PSD to PNG and you get a flat, widely supported picture of the finished artwork, with transparency kept where the file has it.
What gets converted
A PSD stores layers, masks, effects and more, but this converter reads the flattened composite image that Photoshop saves inside the file when Maximize Compatibility is on, which is the default. That composite is exactly what you see on the canvas, so the PNG matches your finished design. The layers themselves are not extracted.
If a PSD will not convert
Files saved without Maximize Compatibility contain no composite, and the conversion cannot work. Open the file in Photoshop, choose Preferences, File Handling and turn on Always Maximize Compatibility, then save again. Documents in unusual colour modes, such as Lab or multichannel, are not supported.
Good to know about PSD to PNG
To export each layer separately, use Photoshop. This converter only produces the finished flattened image.
CMYK documents are converted to a regular screen image, so printed colours may look slightly different.
Large layered PSDs can exceed the free 10MB limit; a free account allows 25MB.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert PSD to PNG?
Drop your PSD files onto the converter above (or click to choose them), press Convert and download the PNG files. It works in your browser and needs no software.
Does the PNG keep a transparent background?
If the flattened image in the PSD has transparent areas, the PNG can keep them. PNG supports transparency, so it is the better choice over JPG for logos and cut-outs.
Can I convert PSB files?
Large-document PSB files use the same structure and are accepted as long as the file is within your size limit and contains the flattened composite.
Is the PSD to PNG converter free?
Yes. You can convert up to 20 files per batch, 10MB each, without creating an account. A free account raises the file limit to 25MB, and Pro or the 24-hour pass go up to 100MB per file with larger batches.
Which files can I upload?
This page is set up for PSD (PSD, PSB), but the converter also accepts many other formats, including JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, PSD and camera RAW files.
What happens to my files?
Uploaded files are used only to produce your conversion and are deleted automatically. See the privacy policy for the exact retention details.
